This blog about our experiences working within the Child Protective Services system as a Foster Parent. As my title suggests, they are not all positive. However, not all of our experiences are negative ones. We have had some great experiences within the foster care system.

At the time this blog was created, my wife and I are relatively new foster parents. We are just finishing our first year as foster parents. In our first year, we have come to believe that this is a calling for us. We started out with the intent to be foster parents as a route to adoption. We have decided that we will continue fostering after adoption.

Many of our posts will be general and vague. Remember that the children in our care deserve their privacy. Therefore, we will err on the side of caution. This is for the child’s protection. We will not give out details about our children. Nor can we as we are bound by confidentiality agreements.

I am sure this blog will grow as we grow in fostering. I hope you enjoy reading it.

I have a MySpace profile for foster parents and adoptive parents, as well as former foster children, and child advocates… I am not a friend of DCS, I am a foster parent who has been banished from the kingdom. I am, however, a proponent of foster care.

I too have been banished from the “CLUB of DCS”. My foster child was given to total strangers after her return to care and we were ignored, why? … because the Director of Foster care in TN, Julie Flannery went to High School with Denise Hiam….yep the Hiams have 2 kids in 2 years and we have zero….have fostered zero except for this little girl. We have known since she was 18 months old, Shelby Goodrum. Did DCS know? YES, Did they do due diligence? NO Did I file a petition? YES Did the judge rule in their favor? NO He said he didn’t know the law and delayed for 6 months, 3x until the Hiams filed for adoption.
Did the social worker, Brandi Venable, lose her own child to DCS in AL? YES… did DCS in TN keep her employed after her arrest? YES (Gallatin Examiner article 2/2012)

She(brandie venable) should not be able to do any type of work with Children.DCS is suppose to be there to help families not to tear them apart. She is so unhappy with her own life she wants to make everyone she comes in contact with. Including Children..
